I just bought a grey face Breitling B1 about two weeks ago and wanted to write a review because I found there were very few out there regarding this particular model.

As a pilot, I wanted a number of features in a watch that I would actually use on a regular basis, especially a UTC readout, second timezone, alarm, day/date and backlighting. The Breitling B1 has all these as well as a second time zone alarm, chronometer and countdown timer.

These functions are displayed on two large, digital readouts set within the traditional analog face. Despite the E6B style slide rule bezel and accompanying busyness, both analog and digital info is extremely easy to read at a glance. Mode selection for the digital readout is achieved by twisting the crown, which I find not quite as easy to use as the push button selection on most multifunction watches, but very nice nonetheless.

Pulling out the crown allows you to change times, etc, within a given mode, while toggling between hours, minutes etc, is done with the buttons either side of the crown. Its interesting to see that while setting the time, the digital readout changes while the hands follow suit electronically, a little different than the usual mechanical link, pretty cool. Depressing the crown lights up the digital displays adequately and the analog luminescence in the dark is good.

One obvious feature of this watch is its size. If you are looking for a dainty timepiece, this probably isnt the right purchase. On the other hand, if you appreciate a solid looking chunk of stainless steel on your wrist, the imposing 43.20mm width and the 16.50 depth of the case will impress you. I have an average sized wrist and I find that while it is large, it looks tasteful and not out of proportion.

It is a heavy watch, but, as with other big watches, it really isn’t noticeable once you are wearingit.

I am rather hard on my stuff and I really like the bombproof appearance of the watch. I have not owned it long enough to comment on its durability, but have a feeling it will hold up to years of abuse. The band is very solid with screwed in links and is quite comfortable. The overall finish of both the case and band is beautiful. It is extremely polished and the craftsmanship looks absolutely flawless.

Photos of this watch definitely dont do it justice, until I saw it in person I dont think I fully appreciated the quality.

Accuracy is, well, quartz. As near as I can tell, it has lost about a second in the two weeks I have owned it, hardly an issue and I wont lose any sleep over not having a SuperQuartz version.

As far as water resistance goes, I have only showered with it and have had no problems yet.

I would feel comfortable swimming with it though perhaps not diving, due to the push pin and crown setup, even though it is rated to 50m. I enjoy waterskiing and windsurfing but would not like to risk a crash and resulting shock or lose any watch of this cost to Davy Jones locker should the band break. Of course, we are not really talking about a watersports watch here, but a serious aeronautical piece that does what it is designed to do very well.

The only other comment I have is that I think a two tone model would make this an even better looking watch without having to spend $20,000 on a solid gold version.

Thanks Bret. I was a bit disappointed. EUR 1,6 per share, last closing price EUR 17,5. but i would only consider buying it back a bit lower. And by these numbers that’s unarguableAbout AAPL. Throughout 2011, let’s assume it will hoard another $ 25 bln. news on the JMP downgrade were already on the web (or got there shortly after) and the stock was trading only half a percent lower in frankfurt, in fact a bit better than other US tech stocks trading there. the 50 day EMA was acting as a support, and got pierced in yesterday’s trading. so i’d say this was more technical than anything else. Nobody can say that AAPL’s business model is broken after these last few years. AAPL has the skills to do everything, from software to hardware, and that is the only way of making top line products. the only constraints here are in production. but comparing an HPQ with an AAPL machine is like comparing a breitling or a patek with a swatch. beverages food will never become obsolete. laptops may. You buy coke when there’s none left in the fridge. with AAPL that’s not the case. they have to create a hit product every 2 years. and for the next few years ahead i believe they will deliver that hit product. and in the only maturing smartphone market in the world the US AAPL has a market share nearing 30% (and going higher when the new iphone 5 is launched at T and VZ simultaneously). AAPL’s market share in the worldwide handset market is just over 3%.

I often heard it said that a premium is paid for Rolex watches because of the amount of money that the brand spends on marketing. That isn’t true. A premium is paid for a Rolex watch because of the value that it will retain, a Rolex will depreciate slower than any other watch on the planet with the exception of solid gold watches by brands such as Cartier.

There are very few Rolex lines which contain timepieces under $5000, but the best of the lines which do offer affordable watches is the Rolex Airking range, despite the affordable prices it is a watch with a rich and important history. The Airking is the last remaining of a series of Rolex lines which were used by Aviators in WWII, and the only noticeable difference between a Rolex Date and a Rolex Airking is the absence of a date window. Another luxury Swiss brand who will need no introduction are TAG Heuer, a brand which typically markets at the midrange market with basic timepieces available for as little as $1000. TAG watches are typically very contemporary in design, with most of their modern lines influenced by Formula One or other motorsports. Yes, those luxury brands will have timepieces on sales for $10000 or even $20000, but almost all of the finest watchmakers in the world have at least a few more affordable lines which are available at reasonable prices. One of those topend brands is Breitling, a highly exclusive producer of exquisite timepieces since 1884. All Breitling watches are manufactured in Switzerland using only Swiss components.

Harry, 18, is said to be planning a number of romantic gestures for the We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together hitmaker in Cannes, where they will stay in the same hotel.

Following their split earlier this month, Taylor, who has had several failed relationships with stars including Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas and John Mayer, was said to have been left ‘embarrassed’ by her love life after she was mocked at the Golden Globes and during an episode of Saturday Night Live.

A source explained: ‘The jokes being made about Taylor’s love life embarrass her.

‘At first Taylor just thought it was funny how much interest people had in her love life and she went along with it.
